Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5,6 (NIV)

Come Learn and
Worship With Us
Greetings to everyone in the name of Christ. As Summer approaches it is great to see the Summer folks begin to return to Duck Creek and to Duck Creek Community Church. It is always a blessing when the Christians return to Church (sort of like Swallows returning to Capistrano only different!).
In May we will begin a series of messages from the New Testament book of Acts. Written by Luke this part of Scripture describes the early Christian church and some of its distinctive practices. In Chapter 2, verse 42 Luke wrote that the early Christians “devoted themselves to the Apostles’ teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.” That is exactly what we will be doing and studying beginning on Sunday, May 25, 2008.
The practices, teachings, and examples Luke recorded in Acts will serve as teaching instruments to us as we continue following Jesus. So, come learn and worship with us. I look forward to seeing you and the visitors you bring with you each year. God bless you all.
In His service,
Pastor Steve
DUCK CREEK DAYS
Dear Friends of Duck Creek Community Church,
As spring is upon us, and we look forward to the next few months of fun-loving days, on Cedar Mountain we need to keep in mind that Duck Creek Days is around the corner (July 18-19). I'm writing to ask for your help, or remind those of you that were involved last year, to start thinking about what you want to make or donate towards the Church Booth. Last year, in spite of the fire over the mountain, rain and mud up to our ankles we were able to make $1,374.50 (record from past years) for the church. All because so many of you were willing to make, bake and bring things to make this such a big success. Thank You! Well it's that time of year to start thinking about how you can be involved this year.
Here are some of the things we found did really well last year:
Just think about the things you find useful, while you enjoy Gods Beauty: Please if you have any questions fill free to contact me, Tami Calvano, (702) 658-7730 till June. Cabin (435) 682-3642 or Jackie Triebolt (435) 682-2400. We also want to give you one last opportunity to participate, if you would like to donate money that we can purchase items to sell please let us know or contact the church.
It's By Gods Grace Alone,
Tami Calvano
A Willing Heart...
Have you ever noticed that God most often uses the most unlikely people to fulfill His purposes? The Bible is filled with such stories. Take Gideon, for example, the angel of the Lord found him “hiding” in a wine press, hoping to not be discovered by the enemies who were occupying his land. Though Gideon was shaking like a leaf . . God would make a great soldier out of him and use him with all his fears to free His people . . .if only he would “step out in the strength you have.”
Esther, the powerless orphan, a girl enslaved in a hostile country, was used by God and raised to a position that would save her whole nation. And from the book of her story come the famous words from her uncle, words that may also fit your situation. “And who knows but that God has placed you here for such a time as this.”
Through the Bible, God reveals time and time again His penchant for using the most unlikely, ordinary people to accomplish His divine purpose. But you may wonder if God could eve use you to accomplish His purposes, with your foibles and imperfections, possibly your lack of talent or influence? Yes, He can! He isn’t looking for people who are perfect or talented or influential. God is looking for people who are willing . . . .
You don’t have to even turn the pages of your Bible to see that God can accomplish the extraordinary with the ordinary. Just visit the worksite, look at the people around you. We are not asking for expertise, though if you have some it would be appreciated. We need people who are willing to step out in the strength they have, no matter how mighty or how small that strength may be. We need people of faith that can see that something huge is happening in Duck Creek….that God is accomplishing a miracle here with people less than perfect, less than healthy, and less than robust. People with health issues and bad backs . . . people that have the one thing God requires . . a willing heart.
Can we count on you . . . for such a time as this? Pastor Steve has asked several men to lead work groups to accomplish various tasks this summer. The section leaders are:
Pastor John Garrison – in charge of finishing the sanctuary, inside and out.
Gary Osborn – in charge of finishing the fellowship hall.
Chuck Brechler – in charge of building the steeple and finishing outside
construction on decks and stairs.
Bob Shackleford – in charge of workgroups to put in landscaping.
Now I need to tell you about the INCENTIVES. Yep – there are incentives. We have had two presentations at church so far: one from Chuck Brechler; one from Pastor John Garrison. Here they are: Chuck said that if you sign up to work with him you will have the benefit of fresh mountain air and sunshine; but more than that, you’ll have the satisfaction of looking at this landmark of a church and say to all who will listen, “See that steeple. I helped to build that.” Pastor John said that if you sign up to work with his crew, for every hour worked you’ll receive a ticket that will be placed in a receptacle from which will be drawn two tickets each month. The prize: A 40 minute massage in Cedar City.
LADIES and MEN – Pastor John said that for every lunch provided your name will be placed on a ticket with the rest of the workers and we will share in the reward.
We have not heard yet from Bob Shackleford or Gary Osborn about incentives . . but stay tuned, I am sure there will be more!
LADIES and MEN if you are willing to make lunches this year, would you please call me (Bonnie) at (435) 682-3116. Let’s keep these guys energized! And of course share in the incentives.
From the Desk of the Treasurer
The Annual Meeting for Duck Creek Community Church is Sunday, June 1st 2008,immediately following the worship service. All members are encouraged to attend.
Did you know that we have more than 90 members!
Did you know that through your generous hearts and open pocket books the church had an income in 2007 of more than $160,000!
Many people have asked, “You’re building without debt . . where is all the money coming from?” We say, “It’s coming from the people of God with a heart like His willing to sacrifice for His namesake.” What a testimony you all are!! We praise God for your generosity and willingness to serve God with your time, money and lives.
